Mombasa is a city on the east coast of Kenya bordering the Indian Ocean. Because of its history, Mombasa was under the influence of the Portugeese, the British and the Arabs (Sultanat of Oman), many historical ruins like Forte Jesus de Mombaça (Fort Jesus a historic Portugese fort) and the Old Town are examples of Portuguese and Islamic architecture. Mombasa is located on mombasa Island, separated by two creeks: Tudor Creek and Kilindini Harbou, and the surrounding mainland. Mombasa is a major trade centre and home to the Kilindini Harbour, Kenya's only large seaport.
